The Farm is Growing

It's been quite a while since I've written an entry.
Our little farm has expanded and tomorrow will expand again!

We started out our little farm with Sally. The ornery miniature donkey left to us by the previous owners. She has only come to us a few times, still we enjoy having her out in the pasture.


After a very unsuccessful attempt at hatching our own chickens, we purchased 2 black australorp hens from a friend. We named them Bee & Chick. They got their names from the name of my friend's little homestead. Clearly, 2 hens would not produce enough eggs to keep this family of 6 fed. So we visited www.mypetchicken.com and purchased 8 more! 7 females and 1 male. We named them Dottie & Lacey (golden wyandottes), Peaches, Blondie (blue laced red wyandottes), and 3 more black australorps Mandi, Candi (who later died) and Doodles the rooster. We kept them indoors for a couple of months til it was time to transfer them to the great outdoors! I know I may be partial, but they are beautiful birds. It has been quite the experience having them & I enjoy them so much. I have officially been termed the "crazy chicken lady" by my friends because of my new found love for my backyard chickens!

In October, our neighbors were moving. They so graciously offered us their goat, Nugget. We decided to take him in since he was free. (There's a great story of how we came home from school one afternoon to him greeting us at the front of the house. He had escaped his pen and if you can imagine the scenes of people running from bulls in Spain then that will give you an idea of what we looked like with him chasing after us.) Quite funny! Anyway, we kept him for a while longer and after butting heads or knees with Allan several times, we decided he needed a new home. He was lonesome & needed companionship. At least that's what we thought.

And, this brings us to this January. After exchanging some messages with someone on a Facebook group, we found Nugget a new home & picked us up 2 new babies! Baby pigs that is. Here's where we added Olivia & Winnie to our farm. They are soooo very cute! And, they stink! And, they scream like someone is murdering them when you pick them up! They will be loved & cared for while they grace our little farm. But, eventually, they will also provide meat for our family.

And, our very latest addition to our farm... is the new-to-us Kubota Tractor! It took us 10 mos to save to be able to buy it. We had hoped if our Dacula house sold we would use some of the money from the sale to go towards the purchase of the tractor. However, when Dacula house didn't sell, we had to postpone the purchase. We are sooo happy. It will definitely make a tremendous difference in cutting the grass/pasture this spring & summer! The little Cub Cadet just couldn't keep up with 25 acres!

He's my most favorite person! So happy to be on HIS tractor!
